Caitlin Coreris makes large multilayered oil paintings with fluid transparent underlying washes overlayed with meticulous forms in vivid colors. Her dynamic paintings are evolving in the direction of flow and structure and are rooted in themes of intangible elements and the tangible world. In her abstract scenes, music and architecture or flow and structure are in dialogue. The relationship between the tangible and abstract avoid a straightforward reading. Her work has an interrelationship between painting, music and architecture. Music creates a mood or a tone that you feel much like the unsayable in painting. The forms in her paintings evolve from linear to soft shapes and curvilinear forms. Her palette juxtapose colors of various density and temperature.

She also draws on historical and present-day influences from Hilma af Klint, Joan Miro, Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Joan Mitchell to contemporary painter Claire Tabouret.

Raised in the Bay Area, California Caitlin earned a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her paintings have been in the collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Artist’s Gallery.
